“Historic Movie House Offering a Family Style Setting”

"My husband and I have spent the last three winters on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. During our three month stay each year we have always made it a point to visit the local theater house. Last night was no exception and, as in the past, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening; we brought our good friends with us and they were equally impressed. I've always thought that the Cinema Plus movie house located at 174 Miracle Strip Parkway SE is the only one of its kind and I will explain why;

In 1940 after borrowing $700 from his father, John Tringas moved to Fort Walton Beach and hired Eglin contractors to build a movie house for him; he called it the Tringas Theater. The movie house changed hands a few times over the years and in 2001 Bob Shirley and Joe Naccia purchased the business and it became Cinema Plus.

(In 2014, the theatre was set to close.  Navarre resident, James Coleman, seized the opportunity to save the theatre, upgrade the equipment to digital while maintaining the character of the aesthetics.)

Other than cosmetic repairs and remodeling the well worn building remains intact and maintains its original composition and architectural design. The rows of seats that once graced the interior of the theater were removed and replaced with sturdy wooden tables and chairs as well as lengthy counters accompanied with bar stools. The main floor of the theater can accommodate 76 guests comfortably, while the seating capacity in the upper level balcony is large enough to hold 31 people.

When you visit, do not expect a modern theater style venue or you will be disappointed; the floors are not level, the carpets are worn, the staircase leading to the balcony is narrow and the steps creak, but all of this adds to the character of the building. The comfortable, cozy atmosphere breathes historic charm allowing you to truly relax while you enjoy a great movie. In addition to its natural ambiance you do not have to wait in line to purchase alcoholic beverages, beer or soft drinks; food and beverages can be ordered at your table. Delicious home-made submarine sandwiches, pizzas, nachos, quesadillas, wraps and a variety of snacks are prepared and provided on premise. The employees not only provide quick service with a smile but they will refill your popcorn bowls during the movie!

Another unique feature that the owners provide is the opportunity for the public to rent the building for private parties and meetings; you can view the movie that is scheduled or bring your own DVD to watch on a big screen! The family style setting that the owners provide at this location actually works! If you are visiting the Fort Walton Beach area treat yourself, your family and your friends to a wonderful “movie night out” at Cinema Plus, you won’t be disappointed."
